About Us

DS Designs started in 2017 and is named after me, Danica Steele!  I was living in an apartment at the time and was trying to decorate for Christmas on a budget, and that is when I started looking on Pinterest for DIY projects.  

I have always been very hands on, and love building things and creating.  My family is a bunch of "do-ers" and prefer not to contract the jobs out, so when I wanted to build a few things, I decided to make a few extra to sell to friends on Facebook.  From the first item I posted (which were little box centerpieces), to then building blanket ladders, I realized I worked well with wood and really enjoyed it.  I started doing more research, and then when summer came and I had friends getting married, I helped build and design a ton of wedding decor, and that is really where the sign making took off.  

Ever since those early days, I have been learning and crafting my skill.  Since late 2019 I started experimenting more with a scroll saw, and it has quickly become my favourite tool and the niche I truly love.  I moved in 2020 and renovated my new house top to bottom, which includes a new shop.  That is where I spend a lot of my evenings and weekends (when not hanging out with my dog) and I am so grateful that I am able to grow this business.  

I love creating new things, and seeing custom orders and visions come to life.  I can't wait to work together on a beautiful piece for your home!
